Jeanette Gibson summarized is most definitely a verb. I am a doing word with still
gaps in between. Riveted together by my daughter, crochet has become my
active meditation. And play my mantra. In short I am a maker of things
on a playful search for beauty.
Mine is a process-based creativity. Conveying meaning through form with a sensitivity to materials and an emphasis on visual, tactile and emotive qualities to forge eclectic, talismanic keepsakes.
I thrive on sculpting organic raw material into sustainable and functional objects of beauty through the exploration of craft skills and art techniques with unexpected twists and refining an idea into a marketable product through a natural exploration of available materials, known techniques and the alchemy of chance.
My experience, knowledge, skills and qualifications range much further than just a BA Fine Art degree. Apart from being proficient in most fine art and craft techniques I also acquired an arsenal of training skills through the facilitation of creative workshops and my design consulting work as part of a United Nations program with artisans in Mozambique where we developed products using sustainable materials with limited custom made tools. In a society where recycled, reused, reworked, re-imagined and mixed media have become buzzwords and innovation a must I have become an invaluable facilitator for creative exploration, innovation and experimentation in contemporary arts and crafts.
