African Flower Comforter

Granny squares conjure images of grandma unraveling jumpers to make blankets to keep warm. Dating back to at least the Victorian times granny squares are useful for using up scraps of yarn. A staple among crocheters the granny square is a piece of fabric produced by working in rounds from the center outward. Color and pattern schemes change with the times but the granny square remains traditionally handmade and resembles coarse lace.
 Originally developed by South African designers Lounette Fourie and Anita Roussouw the African 
Flower is a contemporary version of the granny square.
